Today I'm going to show you a really easy way to create some really cool gold glittery social media icons. I mean, who doesn't love glitter? This is what we are going to end up with:
Step 1: First you're going to need to find a glittery texture. At the end of this tutorial I have a bunch of files under $2 for you to download if you want to add some sparkle to your blog or site. (If you're a photoshop pro I also have made an editable photoshop file that allows you to very easily change the glitter to any color you can imagine :D )
Step 2: Open up your photo editing program and import your glitter texture. I'm going to be using Adobe Illustrator. Create a shape that you want your icons to be. I'm going to be making circles, but feel free to experiment! Try out some stars or jagged edged circles or hearts.. be creative!
Place your shape over your glitter texture, select both at the same time and then click Object > Clipping Mask > Make. This will crop your texture into your shape. So you'll end up with this:
Step 4: Now find some basic social media icons. I found some on google and then traced them to give them a silhouetted look. If you're using Illustrator, click Object > Image Trace > Make > Silhouette.
Repeat with any other icons desired.
Step 5: Change the color of your icons to white and then place on top of your glitter shape. Now save each icon individually as a .png or .gif file. This will make the background transparent. Sizes will vary but I find somewhere around 50 pixels is a good size for an icon. And there you go! Now you have pretty glittery social media icons!
Want to try this yourself? Here are a bunch of original glitter textures I made myself that are available for purchase and download. If you decide to buy one I will email the file(s) to you within 24 hours (but usually much much sooner - I'm addicted to my laptop :D )
All textures are 800x800 pixels.
